Our approach has evolved. After decades constructing traditional block paved driveways and working with different surfacing systems, we have progressively moved away from installing large expanses of conventional block paving and bound surfaces such as resin. Instead, we now specialise in reinforced gravel — a system that allows us to retain the construction standards we have always worked to, while creating a more natural-looking, adaptable driveway particularly well suited to the character of many Essex properties.

Unlike a conventional loose gravel driveway, the cellular grid helps stabilise the aggregate beneath vehicles and foot traffic, creating a firmer, more controlled surface while retaining the character and drainage benefits of natural stone. Each driveway is individually designed around the property, with options including block paved entrance aprons, contrasting borders, pathways, steps and feature detailing. We still use paving where it works best — as part of the design rather than necessarily across the entire driveway.

A professionally installed driveway still benefits from occasional care. Through Garden Revivals™, we offer ongoing cleaning and maintenance services designed to keep your reinforced gravel driveway and its paved features looking their best.

Our aftercare can include surface cleaning, removal of organic build-up and weeds, redistribution or replenishment of decorative aggregate where required, together with cleaning and maintenance of paved aprons, borders, steps and other hard-landscaped features.

5 Critical Stages of Build

1. EXCAVATION — Existing surfaces and unsuitable material are excavated to the depth required for the ground conditions and proposed driveway construction.

2. EDGING & DETAILING — Secure edge restraints are installed, together with traditionally constructed reinforced aprons, steps, borders and other paved features where included within the design.

3. SUB-BASE — A substantial, properly compacted sub-base provides the structural foundation of the driveway, with levels and drainage carefully considered throughout.

4. LAYING SYSTEM — A carefully prepared laying course supports the cellular reinforcement grid, creating a stable foundation for the finished decorative aggregate.

5. SURFACE FINISH — The reinforcement grid is filled and finished with the selected decorative stone, creating the natural appearance of gravel with considerably greater stability and control than a conventional loose-gravel surface.
